With Mike coaching me, my cycling has totally changed. I'm training at the right intensity, doing workouts I would never have done on my own. This has transformed me as a rider. I'm faster & more confident & all my cycling mates have seen the difference. I have gone from an ok Sportive rider to Silver standard Marmotte finisher & couldn't have achieved this without the coaching, support & encouragement Mike has given me.

Silver medal, La Marmotte 2013

Mike has been training me over the past few years with specific goals that enable me able to enjoy myself while taking part in epic sportives like L'Étape du Tour and La Marmotte, in terms of being well prepared physically and mentally. I still have to endure the inevitable suffering, but at least now I'm getting through it all faster. He also advises me on recovery regimes and delivers me up-to-date personal HR zone settings that I use in my Garmin.

Having had to retire from Triathlons from injury, I have been focusing on cycling and since I've only ever spent short periods on the bike I was keen to improve my endurance and increase power output over longer rides. One training session I've always included, is Indoor Cycling. Two years ago I met Mike at Bibo Bike Coaching, and signed up for his sessions using Keiser's Magnetic Resistance Bikes. Right away it was clear Mike was a cyclist. Gone was the experience of being shouted at and thrashing through 45mins of unrealistic cycling ending in a pool of sweat and no real fitness benefits. Instead you are taken through a well constructed session based on intervals of training designed to improve specific disciplines you would typically find yourself in on a real ride. Very quickly I found my fitness was improving which was clear to see on my weekly rides on the road. Mike's experience of cycling is clear and his enthusiasm for the sport is infectious. Having reached a good level of fitness through his classes, I soon found myself signing up for my first serious sportive and asked for Mike's help to complete it. Very soon we had set out a 5 month training schedule to achieve the endurance fitness I would need for the sportive. Mike had also set up an initial Aerobic Test at his studio and this would be repeated monthly to monitor my progress. During the weeks of training, Mike is always on hand to guide you through the schedule and offer technical advice and monitor your progress through a series of evalution tests and disseminating your training logs via email. Whether you are new to cycling and want to improve your general fitness or a seasoned pro and need to hit specific targets and goals I cannot recommend Mike, at Bibo Bike Coaching, enough.

I have found your coaching to be excellent over the summer. Your coaching has got me to a fitness level I have not been at since I was racing when I was 17/18. I had always had ambitions of time trialling or doing crits again, but my bike fitness was never good enough. I am sure next year that I will be able to get racing again, and with your help I expect to do well! Having a weekly chat has been really good too, even if just for some advice, nutrition, rest or some motivation. What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a programme? After several “stalled” attempts to really get back into cycling I needed to have some focus and a plan. I thought I could achieve this on my own, but soon realised that any improvement would be incremental and not sustained. I was recommended by a friend who has worked with Mike for a while. I knew that I needed more than a magazine plan, but something that was personal to me. What results have you achieved since starting your programme? Firstly the evolving plan Mike worked out for me gave me focus and goals. This increased my fitness and leg strength. Secondly I have been able to increase the time I can ride a bike from 2 hours to more than 6 hours. This has allowed me to complete 3 80mile+ sportives. All of which I have been able to ride at a fast pace. My climbing ability has increased massively over the summer, I am stronger on the climbs than I have ever been. I have always been fit and active, however since following the programme over the summer I am fitter than I have ever been. What do you like best about our programme/having a coach? Having a coach is all about a plan that is tailored to me, my free time, my equipment and my goals. Mike worked out a great evolving plan that fit within a busy family and work life, yet was still hard and progressive. Feedback was also key, being able to discuss with someone issues, weaknesses and concerns, helped keep me focused and driven. Using Training Peaks has been great too. I am able to see what I have coming up, see my progress and quickly import data from my HRM. What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our programme? You have to be willing to commit and have faith in the programme. Mike is clearly very experienced and will get you results. If you are prepared to commit the time and effort the plan will work 100%. It won’t be easy, but the results more than make up for the effort and time.

What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a programme? I was preparing for the race across America as part of a 4 man team and was falling behind my teammates training wise,After hearing Mike speak at our club dinner at Christmas I decided to switch trainers and give him a try. What results have you achieved since starting your programme? Completed the Race Across America in a respectable time and was on par with all my team mates performance wise.Considering I was 2 months behind them at the start of training and my programme had to be condensed timewise the results speak for themselves. What do you like best about our programme/having a coach? You can train to your maximum without wasting anytime, the risk of overtraining is minimized, easy to understand and tailor to your needs. I have quite a hectic lifestyle with work and family commitments so my plan was written around this which helped enormously. Also the ability to speak/email problems or questions gives you confidence. Also very motivational What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our programme? As they say at Nike ‘just do it’. It worked for me

What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a programme? I had 4 months to get into shape before I cycled the Pyrenees from cost to cost for charity. What results have you achieved since starting your programme? I got 80/4348 on Strava for climbing Tourmalet. Climbed 16,000 m (vertical ascent) in 5.5 days What do you like best about our programme/having a coach? Having a training routine that is built around the time you have available, ensuring you are training optimally under a realistic timetable. In addition, advice is available whenever you need it, which gives you confidence that you are doing it right. What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our programme? Let the facts speak for themselves; in four months I went from being unable to keep up on the local weekly ride to being one of the strongest riders in a group 20 highly experienced riders cycling the Pyrenees.

What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a programme? I had signed up for a race, which turned out to be double what I thought, distance wise. I had used a magazine guide for a training programme the previous year while training for a 70.3 triathlon, but a ironman distance was a whole different kettle of fish. I thought that by having a tailor made programme, it would prove beneficial and would give me a fighting chance of completing the ironman race in relatively one piece. What results have you achieved since starting your programme? Results achieved as a direct result of the programme....where do I begin... It's a whole string of PB's. 10 mile time trail-2 minutes shaved off, half marathon -3 minutes , middle distance triathlon faster by 30 mins (different course so can't really judge), cycling mileage increased along with fitness and recovery time. What do you like best about our programme/having a coach? My training programme was fitted in and around my working hours and races and events I had already planned. Having someone on the end of the phone/ email to talk through the highs and lows, explaining training sets and giving me the push when I needed it. I'm relatively new to training programmes, having only used a diy version, so many of the terms and sets made no sense to me at all on paper/ screen - so having a coach to spoon feed me what I needed to do was priceless ! What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our programme? Training programmes, gym memberships, coaching, it's simple, you get out of it what you put in, the benefit of having a coach means you know exactly what and when you are meant to be doing something! Someone else has done the brain work so that leaves you to do the hard work! I know one thing for sure, I most certainly wouldn't have cycled through a 103 mile hilly sportive like a 10mile walk in the park , if it weren't for the bike coaching I was in the middle of at the time. All of which helped me successfully complete my ironman race, in a finishing time even I was surprised at. Don't sit on the fence and ponder if you should/shouldn't get a coach, give yourself the best possible chance of being the best you can possibly be.

Your analysis and project planning of my training plan was excellent and well structured. As a result of 1 above I learnt a good deal about the things I should be doing to improve my hill climbing ability and stamina. I really did appreciate the experience and the opportunity to try things out. For that Mike very many thanks.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our programme? Do it Mike is excellent!

I like the personalised approach where the training plans are structured around my lifestyle so training isn't a chore. Most importantly Mike is alway there to provide support and advice to help me adapt to the training and discuss any problems I may be having. His advice and knowledge has been invaluable. Mike is friendly, patient and very kind, you couldn't ask for a better coach.

In the past, when I have downloaded a programme from the internet, I was not motivated by it and I did not see the point of the heart rate zone training. Having a personalised programme and coach is a completely different experience. I was motivated and learnt how to train properly and, what’s more, enjoyed it. Now, under Mikes guidance, I have seen the benefits of following a proper programme. Mike was really supportive during the whole thing too. I thoroughly recommend it.

NB

I thought I was an ok cyclist before but in 4 months my average speed has increased by 25% (which I never thought possible). My endurance, speed work and hills have all improved and I lost 15kg along the way. It has been, without doubt, the single most important cycling investment of my life !!!

PB

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our programme? It will improve your cycling ability and fitness, no doubt about it. If you want to get better as a cyclist and fitter as an individual, the coaching and programmes provided by BIBO will get you there.

Having been involved in triathlon and cycling time trials for 7/8 years and just competed at ironman uk,I decided on getting a coach ,and chose bibo coaching.Since starting with Mike, I have smashed every cycling time trial P.B,Mike was also coaching me for Ironman Since starting with Mike, I have smashed every cycling time trial P.B,Mike was also coaching me for Ironman uk which again P.B. The best thing about having Mike as a coach is his no nonsense approach, and the constant quality feedback you get with him. What would I say about people thinking about joining bibo coaching? If you want to get the best out of yourself and you are committed, Mike will get it out of you! Q. What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a programme? I wanted to take some of the guesswork out of my training. I was looking for improvements in my climbing and general cycling, I know i needed some structure to make this happen, Q. What results have you achieved since starting your programme? I have recently returned from a cycling holiday in the Alps and was in great shape for the duration. I wanted to get close to 2 hours for the Col du Madeleine and clocked a 1:57. Also achieved a new PB on Alpe du Huez and a huge number of PBs over my segments during the trip. Clocked up 339 miles over the 8 days and 65000ft of climbing. Feel fresh the following week and looking forward to chasing a few more local PBs Q. What do you like best about our programme/having a coach? Having someone give you the sessions to work and when to recover helps maintain an injury free training package. Had some big improvements in power and general fitness. Q. What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our programme? I'd tell them not to go with a plan, its my best kept secret. I don't want my riding partners making the improvements I have seen. If you start a Bibo programme you will know what i mean.....................

What results have you achieved since starting your programme? I feel much stronger and more confident and our team ended up winning the second women’s division in the tour. I also joined another women’s team for a shorter race and TTT -  came first out of women in our grade, helping us win the series. What do you like best about our programme/having a coach? The training sessions are based on personalised training zones and the types of sessions evolve over the course of the program to focus and build on specific areas, with the target event in mind. The frequent feedback / phone calls and Mike’s advice and patience really helped to keep things going through a lull in my motivation during a particularly wet and cold winter.
